Speakers are the heart of the system.
No plastic here! Mostly real solid wood or veneers with wood
grates. I can't believe the quality that went into the old
vintage speakers. Some are works of art.If you've been
listening only to computer speakers or ear-buds, you haven't
listened to music yet. The Sansui SP-X9000's are considered
one of Sansui's best from the late 70's. These sound so real
on a good system the only other ones I like better (maybe) are
JBL
L150's (yes I have a pair that will come up here soon). But
then we're not comparing similar speaker types or price ranges.
The Pioneer CS 903's are another good choice, great bass and
mid-range. These can take the abuse at up to 300 watts each.
For a great mid-range vintage, the Kenwood KL-5080's and
SP-X7000's are excellent choices. Warm wood and sound and
they'll handle a good strong signal all day long.
I had a pair from 'Nam of the KL-5080's and loved em.
They have separate connections for each speaker if desired for
multi-amp setups.
I have a pair of Bose 301's in my house and they're great. The
201's and HK-20's are big sound in a small space.
